How to Self-Tan at Home:

Self-tanning can be difficult if you never did it before but with practice it will become easier. There is nothing wrong with not self-tanning but I feel is a personal choice. The problem with self-tanning it can look streaky and not natural-looking tan. With this tips, I will help you get a streak-free, natural-looking tan.

It is very important to exfoliate your body and any wear planning on applying self-tanner. You will want to exfoliate every time applying the self-tanner. Please, pay attention to your ankles, elbows and knees. They can be one of the hardest areas of your body to get self-tanner evenly. Also, the exfoliating your skin will help removes dry and dead skin. It would help ensure that your sunless tanning product will go on smooth and fully absorb.

It is important to moisturize your skin every day for three to seven days before you self-tan. Also, you will want to moisturize your skin the day you are planning on self-tanning. Dry skin can make your self-tan not look natural looking.

The sunless tanner should only go onto your skin when it is dry. If you take a bath or shower make sure you are completely dry. The environment applying the product should be dry. A hot humid environment will be hard to keep your skin dry. Wet skin or damp skin can make your sunless tanner go on streaky.

Some parts of the body, it is important to dilute the product with moisturizer. Such as applying the product to your ankles, elbows, knees. They tend to turn a shade or two darker than the rest of the body and absorb more of the self-tanning product.

It can be difficult to self-tan your back and shoulders. An easy way to self-tan is to reach for a cling film. You will want to put a little bit of the self-tanning product to the center of the cling film and rub your back gently. You should rub as you would towel off your body. I find other ways of applying self-tanner to the back look streaky.

I think it is important to not rush when you are applying a sunless tanner. This way you do not miss one part of your body. The place to start applying a sunless tanner is your feet and legs. Then you will want to move up your body and ending with your arms. Please make sure the product is applied evenly throughout your body. It will look splotchy otherwise.

Applying the product, wear latex gloves or wash your hands frequently. You will want to wash your hands every two to three minutes during the self-tanning process. This way the tan goes on evenly and smoothly.

It is important to let your body dry for a half a hour to sixty minutes before getting dressed. If you do not have time to wait that long then dry your body with a blow dryer. Also, you may not want to wear dark colors after self-tanning since it may rub off on the clothes if the self-tanner is not completely dry.

To help maintain your sunless tan it is important to moisturize your skin every day but do not exfoliate. Exfoliating your skin will help the self-tanner to rub off. It may create uneven patches on your skin. Depending on the product, it may last a week or two.  

To fix areas that just do not look right you can apply more product to the areas that are uneven. You will want to really blend in the self-tanner. Another way is to use lemon juice to erase most of the color form a small part of your body.

It can be hard at first to self-tan but over time it will become easier. There are ways to fix areas of the self-tanner that do not look right.
